Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose local flowers in Philadelphia?
Local flowers are an important part of any community. By supporting a farm growing produce or flowers in your neighborhood you’re sure to know the money you spend is staying in the community you live and believe in. Additionally, the environmental impact of locally grown anything helps sequester carbon out of the environment. Even the petunias you grow in a pot on your front stoop helps!
Plants and trees are one of the best ways to cool down the temperature (shade) AND reduce emissions from the air! Wouldn’t you want the benefit of cleaner air in your neighborhood? Not to mention the carbon footprint! When flowers are shipped from overseas they have to be conditioned (with chemicals) to make sure there aren’t any insects or diseases passing to the final destination. Then packaged (usually in plastic), put on a truck, then a plane, then another truck- off loaded to a warehouse- then another truck to the grocery store where you buy them 4-5 days after they were picked.
Alternatively, you can come to my Porchstand (my version of a Farmstand in the city) Saturdays & Sundays during the growing season (April- October) 9-5 pm get fresh flowers from a local source. My flowers will last longer and be more beautiful than what you buy from a grocery store. I promise!
