Kristen Goessling and Courtney Jewell are teaming up to bring you the experience of working with fresh indigo!
Sunday July 19, 10-12:30 pm (Location in NW Philly)
In this workshop Kristen Goessling of Cascini Abbot will introduce you to the magic of dying with fresh leaf indigo (Persicaria tinctoria), a dye process that can only happen in the summer months when indigo is flourishing. You will learn about growing indigo and what it takes to help it thrive in your garden. Additionally, Kristen will share an array of techniques to get the most color out of your indigo crop. You’ll be amazed with the breath of creative projects you can do even with just a few potted indigo plants! This is a hands-on workshop so make sure you wear something comfortable and bring an apron and rubber gloves if you don't want your hands to turn blue :)
We’ll dive into seafoam blues, turquoise salt mash and Taktaki-zome leaf prints.
A little about your teacher: Kristen Goessling is an artist, educator, public scholar, and community builder who lives and creates in NW Philly. A mixed-media artist, Kristen learned surface design and dyeing in university, but rekindled her love for textiles when she moved to the Germantown/Mt Airy neighborhood in 2020 and began cultivating a natural dye garden in her backyard.
A few notes about this workshop:
The entire workshop will take place outside
It is appropriate for all ages
No refunds
Limited spaces available
Workshop ticket includes all materials, instruction, a 21" x 21" silk scarf, and pre-treated cotton fabric swatch for dying, and fresh indigo of course!
